Struggling to get higher open rates on your emails? Are you stuck in the promotions tab? Are you just kind of looking for some optimization tactics?

Make sure you read my blog post with three simple hacks that will increase your email open rates. Less than five minutes, you’ll have three tactics that you can employee literally today that will increase your open rates.

OK, let’s say that you’ve already done that and it’s not working or you’re just looking for the next optimization tactic. OK you asked, here it is!

This is my super-secret, mega-super powered, awesome, gnarly, radical email open rate booster!

One of the benefits of higher open rates is getting out of spam and promotion tabs and into more inboxes. The more people that open your emails, the more trust you earn with the servers and the more you appear into inboxes.

We do this at Handcraft Burgers and Brew and we have all of our restaurant marketing clients go through it on a regular basis. If you do the following, you will 100% juice your open rates!

The move is to clean your list.

You to want to scrub all the people out of your CRM who don’t ever engage and are literally just baggage on both your marketing performance and the cost of your CRM. There’s no point in having these people on your list because they aren’t engaging anyway.

Here’s how to get those people off and how to get the people who are unengaged more engaged.

STEP 1:

Create a segment of guests who have been on the list for at least 90 days but havent opened in at least 90 days. These are the subscribers who are dragging you down. We need to get them active or off your list.

STEP 2:

Create an "unsubscribe + contest" email to that segment.

Here is how that works:

Image: Mouth watering food is the easiest play here but feel free to be creative.

Caption: "Hey noticed you havent opened or clicked on an email in awhile. That's ok. Maybe you moved away or are no longer interested in [INSERT YOUR TYPE OF CUISINE] (sorry about that). Its cool, we forgive you. Feel free to click the unsubscribe button below. If not and you want to stay on the list, how about [INSERT CONTEST OFFER] Click this button and you'll be entered to win [INSERT CONTEST OFFER]"

CTA Button: links to our most valuable social channel (instagram, facebook, tiktok)

STEP 3:

7-10 days later, run report of everyone who clicked button and pick a winner. Reach out to them and let them know how to redeem.

STEP 4:

Archive all people who did not open the email.

BOOM!

That's it. I guarantee your next email will have a much higher open rate.

How often should you do this?

No more than every 90 days but only if your email open rates drop significantly over the course of a month or 4 sends.
